Parcells should be used to this.
Watch any football programming and you will see how often people reference Bill Parcells as if he is a coach genius. They will consistently act as if by virtue of having this man on the sidelines will give his team an automatic advantage in a game. Especially a playoff football game.
Yet, since his “miracle” 12-4 season with the New York Jets in 1998, the “genius” that is Parcells has not won a playoff game. But you would not know that by listening to the likes of those who are “experts” in the game.
For the past several weeks, I have told family and friends alike that Dallas Cowboys (lead by this “genius”, Tony Romo, and Terrell Owens) were not that good of a team. Romo was installed as quarterback against some average teams only to lose when the competition stepped up and play-off position was on the line. I’m not one to say, “I told you so.” Because the his record over the past month speaks for himself.
Now, we will hear all the talk about how Parcells is a Hall of Fame coach who is guiding the ‘Boys on the right track and that Parcells should stick around one more season because they are “almost there”.
That could very well be true. But it appears that one of his disciples is closer to being in The Big Game than the one we all thought was going to be there.
(Note to Ed Werner, there is a more exciting team in the Bayou!)
